For a brief, non-news post about Game Show Network, I happened to be in a conversation with some other people that randomly turned into a conversation about GSN. I described their gender and age below and compare to how those figures actually rank up with the majority of GSN from the numbers we see.
A 21 year old female said she "watched GSN religiously". I responded by saying "So, you watch a lot of Family Feud?" That is, since Family Feud (both the O'Hurley and Harvey versions) occupies 36.2% of the weekly schedule. She actually said she did not believe Family Feud was on that much (really?) and loved Chain Reaction. This young female did not like Idiotest "that much" when I asked what shows she liked. I have to say I am a little bit surprised that a younger person liked Chain Reaction, but not Idiotest. More of the younger, 18-49 viewers are attracted to Idiotest much more than Chain Reaction. But, I guess there are outliers and rarities. Another friend (a female) around her age also said she watched Chain Reaction a lot.
Yet another female, around the same age as the two above, also said she loved Chain Reaction very much. I wonder where all these people were when Chain Reaction ratings were not so great (and skewed old) at times. However, this individual said she liked the Dylan Lane version much better than the current version (which she claimed to not know much about). I like both the Lane and Catherwood versions equally, but I tend to favor the Catherwood version only based on the fact that it looks better on an HDTV. Better endgame, too. Otherwise, not too many differences.
A 43 year old male that I talked to said he and his young family (kids in elementary and middle school) enjoyed The Chase on GSN. I did not bother telling him that GSN has ended production on The Chase. GSN would have loved more 43 year olds loving The Chase. If The Chase did skew anywhere near as young as 43 (or Skin Wars' 48 or Idiotest's 53), The Chase would likely be in the middle of its fifth season right now and renewed for a sixth.
