|Steve Harvey stands next to actual|
Miss Universe winner Miss Philippines.
I never thought I would hear this, but Miss Universe executives and producers "definitely" want Steve Harvey to come back and host next year if he is up to it. I can actually see why: Ratings, of course. Producers want the chance for Harvey to redeem himself. Their theory is (mine too), a lot of people will turn on Miss Universe who usually did not before to see how Harvey handles the role next year. In fact, if I am around to it, I will too. Maybe not for the entire three hours, but definitely the beginning and the end (and I never cared before). The question is if Harvey wants to return as host.
Some posters here at GameShowNetworkNews think Harvey's mishap could be a sign of early Alzheimer's. Simply, I think Harvey may not have all the smarts in the world in him. You can tell from his language on Family Feud and the fact that he has said on Feud that he was never the smart in school (but notes he had the jokes). He also said on Feud he struggled with his GPA and his family would throw him a party if he got a 2.0 GPA (equivalent of a C). I think Harvey just got confused on Live television and that is all. I cannot imagine early, early stages of Alzheimer's would have to do with naming the wrong winner, especially at only 58 years of age. The envelope was clearly in front of Steve, with "2nd Runner Up", "1st Runner Up" and "Winner". If Harvey had to memorize those three results, then I could see Alzheimer's.
Steve Harvey did take the time to explain that when he was reading the envelope, he said "Winner" instead of "First Runner Up." Harvey added he did not rehearse the winning moment prior to the actual, Live moment. Steve Harvey missed a very important Miss Universe rehearsal. Harvey apparently went to the beginning of the rehearsals but not the ending. Therefore, he did not practice the winning moment. It should have been required that the host, one of the most important figures of the night, attends all rehearsals.
Colombian law firms are actually suing Miss Universe, because apparently "the crown is an acquired right that cannot be taken away from us." We'll see how far this one goes.
There was no teleprompter for the winning moment like some thought. The teleprompter cuts off when the host ends the whole "If Miss Universe cannot fulfill her duties, the runner up will take her place" speech. At Miss Universe, the reason why there is no teleprompter for the winning moment because the contestants could be able to see it. The winner was only on the card.
There is a large conspiracy theory going around that is gaining traction and some are believing that the Steve Harvey Miss Universe mishap was actually scripted so the pageant could gain more relevance. The point behind that would be to get the entire internet talking about Miss Universe, like they have and we have at GameShowNetworkNews. For example, if everything was done correctly, Miss Universe would barely be in the news the past few days and would not have been brought up here. If you believe in conspiracy theories, I will admit, this is a good one.
At the end, Harvey should be forgiven. Especially if he takes that shot at redemption at next year's Miss Universe.
