Mike Catherwood tweets "The future is unknown" for status of 'Chain Reaction'

Mike Catherwood, host of GSN's second revival of Chain Reaction, has tweeted that he is not even sure of the status of the show. The exact wording:

"The future is unknown. I love the game so much and want to continue hosting @ChainReactionUS for as long as possible."

The future does not look too bright for Chain Reaction on GSN. There have been rumors circulating that Chain Reaction will head into weekday syndication in 2016-17.

Chain Reaction is cheap for GSN to produce, even with the just average and slightly old-skewing ratings Chain Reaction has received. Financial-wise, low budget for Chain Reaction could fit renewal (it is probably GSN's cheapest current original along with Idiotest). Chain Reaction is definitely undecided between its current three options, which are GSN renewal, GSN cancellation and a syndication run.

In the 24 new episodes (July 16th-Oct 1st), Chain Reaction has averaged 414,000 total viewers and 87,000 18-49 viewers. Most of the lower numbers for Chain Reaction came in September and the first week of October, which prompted GSN to put Chain Reaction on a hiatus. Since, Chain Reaction reruns have been pulled from the schedule on Tuesday and Thursday nights. In the coming weeks, Chain Reaction will also be cut on Friday nights (due to The Chase new runs coming November 6th).

When hosts in the past in general have tweeted that they are "uncertain" about their show's status, it's not looking good. Carrie Ann Inaba (1 vs. 100) and Drew Carey (Drew Carey's Improv-a-Ganza) had similar experiences with their respective shows.

  1. and yet they keep that trash elevator show, steam punked with that annoying ugly asian lesbian and idiot test with that awful host.

  2. I've given this some long and hard thoughts and can only come up with one question. Judging from CR getting the short term boot and Chase being moved to Fridays,
