In response to GSN pulling more Catherwood Chain Reaction slots from primetime effective next week, we asked for TVMediaInsights to provide ratings from the most recent Chain Reaction reruns. Here are the results, with lead-in and lead-out from last Friday night (All Times ET):
7:30pm Family Feud: 629,000 total viewers/174,000 18-49 viewers
8:00pm Chain Reaction (rerun): 517,000 total viewers/125,000 18-49 viewers
8:30pm Chain Reaction (rerun): 495,000 total viewers/128,000 18-49 viewers
9:00pm Family Feud: 507,000 total viewers/164,000 18-49 viewers
Comments: My gosh, those are powerful numbers for Friday reruns of Chain Reaction. Honestly, I do not see why GSN is pulling Chain Reaction reruns. Even with the drop, Chain Reaction performed very well and basically held on from 8pm and 8:30pm.
Here is what this also means for new episodes of The Chase (coming Friday, November 6th): If unadvertised reruns of Chain Reaction can pull these numbers, I am sure The Chase will also pull impressive numbers on Friday nights. Remember, less competition on Fridays and colder weather/earlier sundown now that we are approaching winter.
Overall, not bad and quite surprising in a positive way for GSN's ratings on this night. When The Chase wraps up over the five-week period beginning November 6th, I could see Chain Reaction replacing The Chase on Fridays at 8pm for new runs. It would be smart for GSN to do that if The Chase performs well on Fridays. New episodes of Chain Reaction are expected to return between Thanksgiving and Christmas, according to Mike Catherwood himself.
