Renewal odds 9/14/15: 'Skin Wars', 'The Chase', 'Chain Reaction', 'Idiotest', 'Steampunk'd'

Skin Wars

Chance of renewal: 100% (flat)

The Chase

For every week or two nothing happens with The Chase, its renewal odds are going down. It's actually odd that Skin Wars is renewed, but no word on The Chase. The only excuse for the Skin Wars renewal was that its season ended, while The Chase has five episodes to go for its current batch.

Unlike Skin Wars, at least The Chase reruns well. Top rated show in Thursday primetime last week with 563,000 total viewers and 105,000 18-49 viewers.

Chance of renewal: 95% (down 4% from last week)

Chain Reaction

I'm starting to see a downward trend and I think this means the hotness of Chain Reaction is waring off. Last Thursday, the 9pm new episode of Chain Reaction fell off massively from The Chase. The 9:30pm Chain Reaction hit a series low in total viewers and was the lowest rated show in 18-49 and total viewers in primetime for that evening. There were not really many positives for Chain Reaction last week, just that it did not bomb to the Steampunk'd level.

The best chance of renewal for Chain Reaction is a continuous weak GSN development slate, which is why we got Chain Reaction in the first place. For now, Chain Reaction hangs at somewhat probable for renewal, but last week's ratings were 'okay' at best.

Chance of renewal: 55% (down 5% from last week)

Despite all the bad on Wednesday nights in recent weeks, Idiotest ticked up this week notably. Both episodes of Idiotest were higher rated in 18-49 viewers than Steampunk'd and Family Feud on Wednesday plus The Chase and Chain Reaction on Thursday. Still, not too impressed with the Idiotest numbers overall and just like Chain Reaction, it's hanging in with just 'okay' numbers.

Chance of renewal: 55% (flat)

Last week in its new 8pm timeslot with the Family Feud lead-in, Steampunk'd actually performed better than I thought it would with 256,000 total viewers and 70,000 18-49 viewers. Both figures are well below the target numbers for Steampunk'd. In four weeks since its premiere, Steampunk'd has averaged 281,000 total viewers and 120,000 18-49 viewers. From that average, the 18-49 viewers are solid but remember, the two strong showings were with the Skin Wars lead-in and the past two weeks have crashed. The total viewer number in that average is simply poor.

Another doom and gloom for Steampunk'd: Starting Wednesday, September 16th and forward, no more Wednesday daytime rerun. Deal or No Deal takes over instead. In a few weeks, Steampunk'd has gone from five runs on Wednesday down to two.

Chance of renewal: 15% (flat)
