2013-14 Feud?

Just like last summer, we await the next season of Steve Harvey Family Feud to come along.

It will come, definitely. But when?

In March 2012 when GSN acquired the first two seasons of Family Feud, the agreement was that new runs of the prior season would air on GSN eighteen months after that season's premiere. The 2010-11 season began airing on GSN in March 2012 and the 2011-12 season began airing in March 2013.

As Family Feud became more popular and therefore much more expensive to acquire, the 2012-13 season took much more time (and presumably money) to acquire the episodes (that are seen on GSN today in primetime and later). Plus, there were other bidders for very modern Family Feud in the Fall of 2014, including TV Land, Centric and BET (however, it does not appear they will be wanting Family Feud on their networks again anytime soon).

As for the 2013-14 season of Family Feud, Harvey's fourth, I assume an arrival to GSN this coming September, later than earlier in the month. However, it is very unclear if last Fall the agreement covered future seasons beyond 2012-13.

GSN currently holds the rights to the first three seasons of Steve Harvey-hosted Family Feud, which ran from 2010-2013. The non-HD 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons currently air in daytime and evenings on GSN while the HD 2012-13 season airs in primetime and post-primetime.

  1. I wonder at what point Feud will lose its momentum from the overkill on the schedule. Back in 2009, Deal and 1 VS 100 were hot, and GSN plugged them all over the place. Then after that, it was Baggage/Newlywed grabbed the 600k ratings. And now, it seems like Feud has taken over (along with Chase and Skin Wars, but the latter aren't being oversaturated on the schedule like Feud is).

I still think GSN would benefit from acquiring other game shows to make the schedule less overloaded with Feud.

Remember the block scheduling days? Well, some of the current nights still remind me of them, except this time it's blocks with Feud. Sundays have Feud from 6 pm to 11 pm. Mondays have Feud from 9 pm to 1 am. Tuesdays have Feud from 10 pm to 1 am. At least Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays have some diversity in primetime between CR, Chase, Skin Wars and Idiotest.

As long as the syndicated version keeps rising year to year and the network Celebrity version powers the franchise, I don't think Family Feud is going anywhere anytime soon on GSN.

Remember, unlike Deal or No Deal and 1 vs 100, Family Feud is still producing new episodes with two more existing seasons for GSN to acquire and five more after than (since Feud has already been renewed through 2020).

    1. Non related but Feud was the number one gamer for the fifth week in a row in the syndication ratings. Feud has a 6.5, while Jeopardy has a 6.1 and Wheel of Fortune has a 6.0. He also nearly topped households, but lost to the loudmouth Judge Judy with a 6.6. Looks like Steve is setting up to be the new king of syndie game shows.

    2. The celebrity version of Feud on ABC is really helping. And the Celebrity version still has an episode to go.

    3. I really think that SNL and Kenan Thompson are not needed anymore here since this show has now become an official parody of its former self.

  3. Last week's episode averaged 8.8 million. The summer run has averaged 8.3 million. Really good for a summer show and should have no issue getting renewed for a second run. Shame that it is only 6 episodes.

  5. i expect 13-14 season of feud to appear on gsn in october when they normally refresh leases. i think ohurley feud will be a fatality and i hope the final 61 episodes of pyl will be next for gsn, usa never aired the last 20 episodes.
