Rumored: GSN "waiting out" '5th Grader' ratings a story earlier this week here at GameShowNetworkNews about the possibility of new episodes The Chase and Chain Reaction moving to another night besides Tuesday (most likely Thursday), Game Show Network may just be waiting out how Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader? performs.

In other words, it appears, if 5th Grader returns as the hit it was in the mid to late 2000's, GSN would not directly compete with a new episode of their own original program, most likely The Chase.

Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader? premieres Tuesday, May 26th at 8pm ET on FOX.

It is a serious threat to new episodes of The Chase, which is one of GSN's most popular shows (with Skin Wars). 5th Grader is loved by game show fans, was a moderate hit on FOX just six to eight years ago and was a hit in reruns on GSN from 2011 to 2013. If 5th Grader does well, I can definitely see why GSN does not want direct competition with FOX.

  1. Doesn't make sense with what they are doing unless they are trying to make a deal with FOX or Mark Burnett productions for GSN to acquire old 5th Grader episodes either that of the FOX or Syndication versions.

  2. I'm starting to be worried about The Chase. If GSN waits too long to bring it back, then it could be just like when GSN waited too long to air The American Bible Challenge. Ratings went down because GSN waited too long to bring it back. If GSN doesn't bring back The Chase soon, then it might not get a 5th season. I think that 99% chance of renewal should start going down if nothing happens soon.

Also, if GSN is waiting because they think 5th Grader will get good ratings, then that once again leads to this question: Why did GSN get rid of 5th Grader?

    1. That is a valid point with The Chase, but I doubt The Chase will have that big of a decline in ratings, if at all, that American Bible Challenge had from season two to three for these main reasons:

      A) During its hiatus, The Chase has been on the schedule weekly, unlike Bible between seasons. The Chase has remained in two prime slots no less for months now (Tuesday 8pm and Friday 8pm).
      B) It's only been since March 10th for the last new episodes of The Chase where Bible had a full year-long hiatus. It would take The Chase nine to ten more months for that long of a hiatus for The Chase and I don't see that happening.

As for 5th Grader, it appeared the rights expired and GSN lost interest.
