The GSN schedule in 2015: How I would do it

Over the course of the past two and a half years, the pre-1990's lineup has been cutback from five to three hours and as of this coming April, two hours, from 8-10am ET. Only three classics, or "pre-1990's shows" (which is what the current definition of classics is) exist on the daily schedule. Match Game, Card Sharks and Press Your Luck remain while it appears leases have expired for Sale of the Century and The $25,000 Pyramid.

Personally, I would want pre-1990's shows to expand to the mid-afternoons which would include the return of Blockbusters, Password Plus and Super Password. Then, I would want to see old GSN originals brought back, such as Whammy! and Lingo from 2pm and on, with Catch 21, Chain Reaction and NBC/GSN 1 vs. 100 in the mix.

Realistically, to what GSN wants, here's what I think the smartest way to schedule daytime would be:

8:00am ET: Match Game (70's)
8:30am: Match Game (70's)
9:00am: Card Sharks (Perry or Eubanks)
9:30am: Press Your Luck (80's)
10:00am: Let's Ask America (Bellamy) (1)
10:30am: Let's Ask America (Bellamy) (1)
11:00am: Chain Reaction (Lane) (2)
11:30am: Chain Reaction (Lane) (2)
12:00pm: Family Feud (Harvey) (3)
12:30pm: Family Feud (Harvey) (3)
1:00pm: The Chase (Season 1-3) (4)
2:00pm: Catch 21
2:30pm: Catch 21 (5)
3:00pm: Idiotest (Season 1) (6)
3:30pm: Idiotest (Season 1) (6)
4:00pm: Deal or No Deal (30 min) (7)
4:30pm: Deal or No Deal (30 min) (7)
5:00pm: Deal or No Deal (7)
6:00-8:00pm: Family Feud (Harvey) (8)

1: Let's Ask America, with host Kevin Pereira, was tried on the GSN schedule last summer and did not really work out. GSN should really give the Bellamy episodes a chance. Apparently, GSN has acquired them. They just have not shown them yet. Plus, it's a tame game show which I think would fit in perfectly with mornings right now.

The best option for the 10am hour would be, of course, modern seasons of Wheel of Fortune.

2: With the upcoming revival, Chain Reaction should be pushed back. One of the issues with Lingo and The Pyramid not succeeding was the over-exposure of prior versions before the new version premiered. Lane's Chain Reaction, which still grabs good numbers, should be kept somewhere. Plus, it's starting to skew old like a classic, going on ten years since new episodes pretty soon.

3: From all the numbers we have seen, Steve Harvey Family Feud does well just about anywhere. There's no reason to move it.

4: Plus, Harvey Feud would provide a great lead-in to The Chase. Within some time, daytime viewers will get tired of seeing the same season of O'Hurley Feud over and over again (which has been airing in this hour since September 2013). It's time to move some reruns of primetime originals into daytime.

5: It's time. Catch 21 has produced some fine numbers to keep the 2pm timeslot for five years now and for GSN to add Alfonso to mornings.

6: Daytime is getting more modern, and why have an old original like Lingo fill that hour. With Chain Reaction moved to the 11am hour, get the daytime viewers hooked on Idiotest.

7: Keep it like it is. GSN has not touched this two-hour block of Howie in many months. Must be performing well.

8: It does well. Duh.

  1. Sony has no interest in showing modern Wheel on GSN, because of the risk it undercuts current episodes (many of them have been garbage).. plus Sony's shows are all leaving GSN..

    1. "Sony's shows are all leaving GSN.."

How do you know this, and if this is the case, then why? GSN is owned by Sony for crying out loud

  2. "because of the risk it undercuts current episodes"

Sony should REALLY look into Steve Harvey's Family Feud. Not just has Harvey Feud been airing on GSN along with the new runs in syndication, but the GSN reruns air directly with the new syndicated runs in most markets.

Example: Harvey Feud airs weeknights 6-8pm ET and has for the past year, plus (and the 6pm hour for the past three years). In most affiliates on the East Coast and Central Time Zone, Feud airs in those 6pm, 7pm windows (and 5pm CT).

Syndie Feud has done just fine with cable reruns airing concurrently.

  3. Let's Ask America just STINKS. It was a terrible show to watch. It won't do anything but be a ratings tanker.

  4. A few days after GSN is known to be taking Let's Ask America off its schedule, Scripps announced yesterday it won't be renewed for a fourth season.

  5. Here's what I would do.

    8:00am: Match Game
    8:30am: Match Game
    9:00am: Card Sharks
    9:30am: Press Your Luck
    10:00am: Shop Til You Drop
    10:30am: Lingo (Woolery)
    11:00am: Family Feud (Karn)
    11:30am: Family Feud (Karn)
    12:00pm: Family Feud (O'Hurley)
    12:30pm: Family Feud (O'Hurley)
    1:00pm: Family Feud (Harvey)
    1:30pm: Family Feud (Harvey)
    2:00pm: Catch 21
    2:30pm: Catch 21
    3:00pm: Chain Reaction (Lane)
    3:30pm: Chain Reaction (Lane)
4:00pm: Deal or No Deal (Syndicated)
4:30pm: Deal or No Deal (Syndicated)
5:00pm: Deal or No Deal (NBC)
    6:00pm: Family Feud (Harvey)
    6:30pm: Family Feud (Harvey)
    7:00pm: Family Feud (Harvey)
    7:30pm: Family Feud (Harvey)

    1. Why would you air so much Family Feud that's not the Harvey version from 11am to 1pm?

No one really cares about the Karn and O'Hurley versions anymore. It's 2015. GSN dumps them on weekends now, if at all.

    2. How about this instead.

      11:00am: Whammy!
      11:30am: Russian Roulette
      12:00pm: Bingo America
      12:30pm: The Pyramid.

GSN is bringing back Karn Feud and O'Hurley Feud is getting more slots on weekends, so someone must still care about them in 2015.

  6. Casey Abell posted the 4/6-4/12 GSN schedule, and GSN airs PYL episode 696 on Wednesday 4/8, and on Thursday 4/9 GSN goes back to episode 561. Looks like they picked up 130 episodes of PYL(six episodes between 561-696 were skipped)

  7. I am so sick of Family Feud I can't stand any version of it! Every time I have watched it I see the same families over and over. The commercial that plays all day long for it is horrible - if I see that stupid woman bounce her boobs one more time I am never watching GSN again! I love the vintage shows and I record them so I can watch the shows I like in prime time.

  8. How should I do it:
8:00 AM: Match Game (CBS or Syndjcated)
8:30 AM: Family Feud (ABC, Dawson)
9:00 AM: Card Sharks (Perry and Eubanks)
9:30 AM: Press Your Luck (1980's)
    10:00 AM: The $100,000 Pyramid
10:30 AM: The $25,000 Pyramid (CBS)
    11:00 AM: Super Password
    11:30 AM: Password Plus
    12:00 PM: Blockbusters (Cullen)
    12:30 PM: Tattletales (1974-1984)
    1:00 PM: The Dating Game
    1:30 PM: The Dating Game
2:00 PM: Sale of the Century (NBC)
    2:30 PM: Crosswits (Sparks)
    3:00 PM: Lingo (Woolery)
    3:30 PM: Chain Reaction (Lane)
4:00 PM: Deal or No Deal (Syndicated)
4:30 PM: Deal or No Deal (NBC)
    5:30 PM: Dog Eat Dog
6:30 PM: Whammy! The All-New Press Your Luck
    7:00 PM: Family Feud (Karn)
7:30 PM: Shop 'til You Drop (Finn or Roberto)
    8:00 PM: The Chase
    9:00 PM: Hellevator
    9:30 PM: Chain Reaction (Catherwood)
    10:00 PM: Steampunk'd
    10:30 PM: Man Versus Fly
    11:00 PM: Family Feud (Anderson)
    11:30 PM: Family Feud (Anderson)

    12:30 AM: Family Feud (Anderson)
    1:00 AM: Family Feud (Harvey)
    1:30 AM: Catch 21 (Ribeiro)
