GSN in 2013 Part 3: Acquisitions

Some years for GSN have many acquisitions, and some years don't. 2013 was not a hot year for modern pick-ups and additions but a more-than-fair solid year for pre-1990's.

GSN Acquisitions/New shows 2013:
*Sale of the Century [April]
*Sale of the Century (syndicated) [December]
*Shop 'Til You Drop [December]

GSN Re-Acquisitions in 2013:
*Game Show Moments Gone Bananas (special) [May]
*1 vs. 100 (Saget) [November]
*Blockbusters [December]

Additional episodes of shows already on GSN:
*Family Feud (Harvey) (2011-12 season) [March]
*Family Feud (O'Hurley) (2009-10 season) [April]
*Password Plus [April]
*Super Password [April]
*Press Your Luck [April]
*Match Game (70's) [April]

To the shows that left the schedule in 2013: Lingo (both versions); Jeopardy!; Card Sharks; Million Dollar Password; Family Trade; Drew Carey's Improv-a-Ganza; Family Feud (Dawson) and Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?

The obvious grade for classic additions (including Shop 'Til You Drop) is an easy A (not quite A+) while the modern pick-ups were quite weak this year, giving GSN a C+, given only Bullseye Feud and 1 vs. 100 were picked up. The overall grade for 2013 Acquisitions is a B+

Next is Part 4 of 5 (Tomorrow, December 30th): GSN Originals 2013

  1. GSN made some good acquisitions in 2013, from Sale of the Century to Shop til You Drop to reacquiring 1 vs. 100 and Blockbusters, as well as refreshing the classics block.

Their are a few shows that I wish had been acquired, but I think 2013 was a good year for GSN.

I think you forgot a few things.

*Family Feud (Harvey) (2011-12 season) [March] should've been on the additional episodes of shows already on GSN list.

*Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader should've been on the list of shows that left the schedule in 2013.

Also, Syndicated Sale of the Century actually debuted on Black Friday, so it should say November. Although Game Show Moments Gone Bananas was aired in May, I believe it was reacquired in late March-early April with the rest of the Fremantlemedia lease of Harvey's second season, the new and refreshed classics, and O'Hurley's Bullseye season.

  2. Thank you. I'll change the wording. Cannot believe I left out two of the most important.

  3. I wouldn't rank Shop til You Drop as an A.
The show was so-so and it reminded me why I could tolerate it in small doses but not every weekday:
The pricing is outdated and Dee Bradly Baker loves to dress in drag.

Dee Bradley Baker is a good voice actor but, once he is seen on camera, he is annoying.

  4. We don't talk about Dee around here. I blame Dee (for his characters) for the Shop's lackluster numbers on GSN

    1. People aren't watching Dee for his characters.... unless I missed something there.
I watch the show for overall entertainment value. Do I think the some of the stunts are lame and easy? Absolutely. The one where you had to figure out which president was on the coins was too easy.
The final round easily the most exciting but, that only takes up the final 5 minutes of the show.

  5. According to Zap2it, starting Monday January 13, Karn Feud may be out of Monday nights. It's showing Mind of a Man in the 7pm hour, and in the 10pm hour, Feud is rated TV-PG(D), which likely means Harvey will be taking that hour. 8pm and 9pm look the same, but Zap2it doesn't say whether it's Karn or O'Hurley, so I don't know if that will change or not.

    1. Zap2It Monday, January 13:

7:00pm hour: Mind of a Man
      8:00pm-10pm: Family Feud (O'Hurley)
      10pm-12am: Family Feud (Harvey)

  6. I was expecting a change, given all the additional slots Mind of a Man has been given Thursday Jan 9 through Sunday Jan 12.

As long as they don't touch daytime. I'm just surprised GSN expects this to be a huge hit and to continue above average numbers in countless reruns.
