Latenights on GSN: 'Baggage', 'Feud' eroding

GSN, Game Show Network has been through some very reasonable numbers with Family Feud and American Bible Challenge since last August.

From the past week of ratings, the four lowest spots on the schedule instead of Match Game, Password Plus or Whammy! were all Baggage. Even though these episodes were aired at 3am & 3:30am weeknights, this has never happened before.

Previously, the late-night line-up consisted of Harvey Feud, Baggage, O'Hurley/Karn Feud, Lingo, Jeopardy!, Password Plus, classic Pyramid and Super Password. Since September, those five hours of programming are simply Steve Harvey's Family Feud and Baggage, which angered some late-night classic fans.

In the beginning, though, these were excellent changes when it came to ratings. Most episodes of Baggage at midnight averaged 400,000 viewers or more, Harvey Feud at 1am averaged 300,000 viewers, while Feud and Baggage from 2-4pm would average well above100,000 viewers, sometimes gathering 250,000 viewers per episode. Remarkable numbers for that timeslot.

Here were to most recent averages for the late-night lineup:

11:00pm Family Feud (Harvey): 301K
11:30pm Family Feud (Harvey): 408K
12:00am Baggage: 292K
12:30am Baggage: 240K
1:00am Family Feud (Harvey): 216K
1:30am Family Feud (Harvey): 196K
2:00am Family Feud (Harvey): 184K
2:30am Family Feud (Harvey): 177K
3:00am Baggage: 112K
3:30am Baggage: 114K

These numbers are down from previous months. Of course, there is suppose to be the regular steady drop as the night goes on. Besides the "bring back the classics" schedule ideas, I do believe it is time to bring in The Newlywed Game. Baggage seems to be declining and it may be time for a cutback latenights and to definitely vanish Friday nights when some episodes failed to average over 200,000 viewers in primetime.

Late night episodes of Baggage on Saturday averaged 205,000 viewers, down from most other weeks. The Newlywed Game in the midnight hour received 430K and 377K, up from other weeks.
